Fred's Weight Loss Before and After: Super successful businessman Fred Hassen had neglected his health over the years while building his business empire. That is, until he stumbled onto the low fat raw vegan way of life 4 months ago. The results speak for themselves!

This is Fred's story in his own words, as shared with Loving It Raw in August 2011.

About 12 years ago I opened a dog training company called 'Sit Means Sit Dog Training' and started it with just a van and a magnet with the name of the company on it.

Over the years I ended up having my own radio show, television show, and competed my dogs at a National Championship and World Championship level. This business eventually went franchise a few years ago, and we now have over 70 locations throughout the United States, Canada and Australia. I also was doing seminars for a number of years in which I was booked regularly 48 weekends a year.

Over the years I put on a good bit of weight from being constantly on the run, fast foods and the normal story that happens to lots of people when they get all caught up in whatever it is they are doing, and not being mindful of their health. I'm 54 years old now, so really my health is the most important thing that I have.

Looking back on it all now, I think that everyone is presented with stressful situations every day, and that is never going to leave us.......it's about making the right choices and I certainly was not doing that, but then again in fairness, I also didn't have the information that I have now. So my journey began.

I've always been into getting some of my education from watching videos on youtube from whatever I was interested in.

I have over 800 videos on my own youtube channel so I'm looking around there a lot. One day I stumbled upon Michael Arnstein's website at TheFruitarian.com and I'm sure a lot of people probably think he's totally out of his mind when they first see him......but it just made total sense to me.

He also kept referring to this The 80/10/10 Dietby Dr. Doug Graham. I looked up Dr. Graham and ordered his book. This was 4 months ago.

I played sports in high school, so the fact that Dr. Graham's diet was being used by lots of athletic people was appealing to me. However my motivation came more from the angle that I could perform at my highest level in business, which takes a lot of energy.

I'm in the public eye a lot, and was getting a bit tired of seeing my overweight self on my videos. I just felt I should be setting a better example as a business leader, and to the general public.

I have the greatest business in the world where I get to be outside in the sunshine with my very athletic dogs, and I could see where all this would just fit in so well for the long run on the 2nd half of my life.

Fred's Weight Loss Before and After - The Shirts Come Off!

I scoured youtube and watched every single video I could find by people that were on the 80/10/10 diet. I noticed that lots of these people did their videos, or at least some of them, with their shirts off. Lots of people talk the talk, but you really have to walk the walk if you're out there taking your shirt off......no hiding behind the clothing with these folks!

I used to eat everything and anything, and a lot of it late at night right before bed. I was having trouble sleeping and basically just dragging a lot. My diet was laden with fat, like a lot of other people.

I was all in right away with the 80/10/10 diet, and I have no doubt that I will continue to eat and exercise this way for the 2nd half of my life.

I usually get up and run a few miles in the morning. I also do a little weight training.

I think anyone that is interested in being competitive as a businessman is going to have to implement a strong diet and exercise program into their lifestyle, or someone else is going to pass them up in the long run from a mental, spiritual or physical standpoint.

Most leaders are competitive and they want to stay on top of their game in every phase. I know I do. Living this way gives you a chance to just grab hold of your life, and take control of it.

After exercising I start my day off with a Green Smoothie. I usually mix a big bunch of raw organic spinach in my Vitamix blender along with some organic celery, bananas, a couple of dates and some frozen strawberries that have no added sugar.

The fruit makes it a very tasty drink. I'm not the kind of person that is going to eat something that is good for me if it doesn't taste good. This tastes awesome and has plenty of calories to get me going.

One thing I absolutely love about this diet and lifestyle is the tremendous variety.

I got fat on my old diet, and it really came down to the fact that I was regularly eating a few things that I liked: Prime Rib, burgers, omelettes, and a few other things.

There is so much more variety with fruits and vegetables in comparison to the few things I was eating before, and I can eat as much as I want. Who doesn't like fruit?

I never liked to cook much, so this raw diet was totally up my alley and I could just grab stuff and eat or throw it in a Vitamix. It's been really easy on the road too.

I can easily see now why a lot of people are not as productive as they could be, when you see all the junk they throw in their bodies, it's no wonder they are tired half the time. I know I was. Anyone can turn it around though.

You are much better off with a diet like this that is a lifestyle because then you won't have the constant yo-yoing of dieting. Look, everyone is going to have their days when they eat something they shouldn't but the main part of transitioning to this is to make each day and each decision as close to 80/10/10 as you can.

Keep reading and keep watching videos and a good website to get lots of information is 30bananasaday.com where there are tons of people from all over that are living this way.

Everyone should transition at their own pace. We've all heard stories of people that used to smoke, drink or whatever. Some of them just had it one day and it was all over and they never went back.

Others were in rehab a number of times, but they always knew they had to get straight and only they can do it. I'd suggest just to read the book, and stay educated. Make it a passion as it is now with me.

Then make a smoothie, or substitute your breakfast for fruit and go ahead and eat as much as you care for. Start with changes like that if you can, and start exercising. Do it every day......

Fred's Weight Loss Before and After - Motivational Audio Books

I also started jogging and riding my bike regularly, and listened to a lot of motivational audio books while I did that. My favorite one is No Excuses!: The Power of Self-Discipline by Brian Tracy.

I think that anyone who embarks on this lifestyle will not only become much healthier, but will also begin to perform at a much higher level in whatever field they're in. They will also be able to set a better example for everyone around them.

The way you make a difference is starting with yourself, that's the only way it can be done.
