Easy Fruit Smoothie Recipes

fruit smoothie recipes

Fruit smoothie recipes are the most fabulous tool in following a raw food lifestyle, or even just a relatively healthy lifestyle. Anyone can enjoy these, they taste better than anything else on earth and children love them!

A lot of my fruit smoothies use frozen bananas. Frozen bananas create an ice cream/double thick milkshake consistency and taste to your smoothie. It is truly amazing! You have GOT to try it.

Frozen bananas elminate the need for the use of any type of milk whether soy milk or rice milk or any sort of milk whatsoever, as well as any need for cream or ice cream (adding these would only be to the detriment of your smoothie in terms of health AND taste).

My smoothies ONLY contain fresh fruits and sometimes nuts or nut butters. You will never find any sort of animal product in any of my smoothies and you'll also never find unnecessary ingredients that generally just tend to neutralize the flavors.

Blenders!

Get yourself a GOOD blender, if you want to have amazing fruit smoothie recipes for years to come this is an investment worth making! The Vitamix is the best on the market. We have two Vitamixes and I can honestly say they are our most treasured possessions! If you want to live a healthy lifestyle and fully enjoy preparing and eating fruit smoothies (not to mention amazing pates, raw soups and salad dressings or other amazing raw food recipes) then get a Vitamix. You'll also need a powerful blender like this to make my delicious fruit dessert recipes, chocolate desserts and other easy healthy recipes!

You'll save yourself HEAPS of time and you'll actually save money over time too, as these are solid investments - the Vitamix has a 7 year guarantee! A great blender won't burn out on you, and you won't have to stand over it in frustration, stirring and shaking and trying whatever you can think of to get the darn thing to BLEND! A Vitamix does it in SECONDS.

With my fruit smoothie recipes it is PURE GOODNESS, FRESHNESS AND HEALTH all the way baby!

SO, whenever you have any ripe bananas on hand (ripe bananas must be spotty by the way) then peel them, break them into quarters and freeze them. You'll be able to use them for smoothie recipes for weeks to come with no fear of them going bad.

You can also freeze other fresh ripe fruit if you have too much on hand, such as mangoes or papaya and use them in these fruit smoothie recipes.

If you are buying frozen fruit, make sure that you're buying high quality frozen fruit without any additives.

We usually buy frozen blueberries and strawberries but most other fruits we'll just freeze ourselves if we have an excess of ripe fruit on hand.

The Importance of RIPE bananas!

Something that shocked me quite a bit was realizing that most people eat under-ripe fruit. No wonder fruit isn't as widely loved as it SHOULD be! Unripe fruit is not meant to be eaten!

Different fruits have different ways of letting us know they're ripe. When a mango is good to eat it will feel firm but not hard, and if you smell the base of it it will smell sweet!

Bananas are very easy.

These are unripe bananas.

And these are ripe bananas.

You see the spots? YES, this is ripe! This means that the sugars in the banana are ready and available and THIS is going to be the most delicious in your fruit smoothie recipes!

If a banana has any green on it and doesn't have spots, it means it is mainly starch! Which is harder to digest and significantly less sweet and delicious. So don't eat them! Wait a couple of days.

Fruit Smoothie Recipes: Coconut Water

A lot of my fruit smoothie recipes use coconut water as a base. I only use fresh coconut water (never out of a can). You can use any fresh coconuts that you can buy at a fruit market or at a regular grocery store.

This is the kind of coconut I am currently eating, but you can eat any kind of coconut that is available in your area.

This is how you open a coconut!

One coconut usually yields about a cup of coconut water and this is perfect for my fruit smoothie recipes.

Fruit smoothies are a staple in my diet and I often have two or even three per day!

Smoothies are also a great way to take in a large quantity of fruit. When you eat fruit without blending it, you may find you can't eat as much.

This may not sound like much of a problem, but under-eating is very common with those new to a low fat raw vegan diet.

And for those on any other kind of diet, getting as MUCH fruit and veg into your body as possible can only be a good thing! It crowds out the other junk and is so filling and satisfying that less healthful foods just won't tempt you.

There is also NOTHING more delicious than a great fruit smoothie recipe! And you'll find plenty of those here on this page!
