Raw Food Diet - 30 Day 'No Fat' Trial - Day 10

10 March 2009

Today is day 10 of my raw food diet 'no fat' trial.

Weight

I weighed in at 122 pounds this morning, bringing my total weight loss for this raw food diet trial to 3 pounds.

I am excited about this weight loss. I haven't weighed this little except on a fast for a couple of years. I am feeling very positive about this experience again today. I am finding it amazing that I am eating as much as my hunger dictates and still losing weight. I have never really been able to do that before. I have always had to watch myself.

The Elimination Situation

I am still slightly constipated! How weird is that! For the amount of fruit and fiber I am eating, I am just wondering where it's going!

Let me just clarify something before I go any further. A couple of years ago you wouldn't get me to talk about bowel movements TO A DOCTOR let alone broadcast it over the internet. In fact I tried to pretend to the world at large that I was far too ladylike to do such things.

Bathrooms were places I checked my hair and washed my hands, never USED THE TOILET! However, being vegan and then raw vegan totally changes your attitude to eliminations. It seems to develop into an area of interest rather than one of grossness. It's partly because it stops smelling once you become vegan.

There is no smell so there is considerably less grossness attached. Also, moving towards the perfect diet is all about what is optimally DIGESTED so bowel movements become interesting to take note of, rather than something unpleasant that has to be tolerated.

I mean if you think of a cow, there is nothing all that gross about its manure, but in the case of a cat? GROSS! It's because of the difference between plants and flesh. Flesh takes much longer to move through the digestive tract and is decomposing while it's doing so; your body is a grave for decomposing body parts. Of COURSE it's GROSS!

Once you're vegan, you notice massive improvement in that area. Once you're raw vegan even more so.

I have been having odor free, super easy eliminations around twice a day for ages. So for me to now be having them only ONCE a day makes me feel like I'm constipated. Which to most people might sound weird, but to others on the vegan raw food diet it would make perfect sense.

Detox Symptoms

I was coughing so much I woke myself up this morning before my alarm went off. It was the kind of shallow hacking cough that I used to have so often during an allergy attack. As soon as I got up it stopped. I had a bit of a snotty nose but after my shower it cleared up too.

I only got to sleep at midnight last night. I was busy working on things, and then chatting to my sister. After being tired the whole day yesterday, when it was time to go to bed I was full of energy! I woke up at 6 this morning and felt really tired. I still leaped out of bed though. My eyes were scratchy and I almost wanted to fall asleep on the drive in to work.

During the morning it went away and I felt quite energetic for the rest of the day.

Raw Food Diet Trial: Food

I had two liters of green smoothie made with 3x small cucumbers (345g), a small head of romaine lettuce (156g), a bunch of spinach (284g), 2x Mangoes (690g) and 3x dates.

I had half at 8:30 and the other half at 12:30. At 2:30 I had a celery and date salad containing 165g celery and 4x dates and at 4:30 I had 8x medium oranges. For dinner I had a soup that Jaye made. It looked like mud, but it was TASTY! It was made with oranges, celery, red bell peppers, spinach and tomatoes.

Conclusions

Today was far better than yesterday. I worked well today and got a lot done. I also felt very positive about this raw food diet trial again. I am still thinking about cooked food and how nice it would be to eat some, but it isn't overpowering. It's funny, but I haven't had any urge for fats, and this is supposed to be a 'no fat' trial, more than a raw food diet trial! I guess if I was having the fats, I wouldn't be having the cravings for cooked food as much.

I wasn't hungry today and felt very satisfied with what I ate.

My totals for today were as follows: Calories 1525, Fat 7.2g, Carbs 372.3, Dietary Fiber 71.9, Protein 37.7g and Sodium 555.3mg.

This is notable because of the sodium! This is all from the celery! Celery is super high in sodium. If you notice on the other days, my sodium intake is around 70mg. This is the kind of sodium that is so good for you.

My percentages were as follows: Carbohydrates 88%, Protein 8% and Fat 4%.

P.S. I almost forgot about it completely! My shoulder didn't hurt today! So I forgot about it! How fantastic is that!
