Raw Food Diet - 30 Day 'No Fat' Trial - Day 11

11 March 2009

Today is day 11 of my raw food diet trial with no added fat.

Weight

Well today I'm up again by 2.2 pounds! So that brings my total weight loss for this raw food diet trial back down to 0.8 pounds.

PMS?

Just before I went to bed last night I got some cramping in my stomach, which was quite mild but similar to endometriosis pain. At the same time my stomach swelled up.

I showed Jaye, he was quite astonished because it happened so quickly. I went to bed then and slept deeply until this morning.

Even before I got on the scale I knew it wasn't going to be good news. I felt so much heavier and could see my stomach was bigger than yesterday. Yesterday I felt very light and my stomach was much flatter than today. Today is day 17 of my cycle, so it is around the time in my cycle when the fun and games usually start.

As I type this my stomach is swollen out like I'm at least 5 months pregnant. I have also had some mild irritability. So let's see how this progresses.

Shoulder

My shoulder still feels fine. If I rub it I can still feel all the lumps and bumps and knots of muscle, but it has stopped hurting so I'm thrilled.

Jaye

Jaye is actually doing this raw food diet no fat trial too. He isn't recording anything or doing anything formally, but since I am not having any fats, he just hasn't bothered to buy anything or eat any fats either.

His detox has also sped up and we have both noticed the accelerated detoxing during the night. He has broken out in a skin rash on his legs that he had when he was 18 and only got rid of after many months of antibiotics. Now it's back.

It just goes to show that when symptoms are suppressed with medicines, they just come back another day. At least now his body will have a chance to work it out of his system.

He has been paying attention to making sure he eats enough. He has always had a very fast metabolism and can drop weight very quickly but take a little longer to put it on.

I am a big fan of the lean machine thing so you don't hear complaints from me! I love the fact that I have never been able to grab a love handle anywhere on his body!

His body fat is about 4% and he has veins and muscle definition that body builders practically kill themselves for. However, he dropped a bit of weight when we moved to Dubai and he got out of weight training, and now that he's back into weight training he would like to put the weight back on. So he is making sure that he is fueling himself adequately.

He said last night that he has noticed that any cravings for cooked food occur because he hasn't eaten enough fruit. Pretty much anything is because he's not eating enough fruit. So he just focuses on getting that fruit in.

Apparently his colleague cracks up laughing hysterically whenever he sees the massive quantities of food Jaye eats in a day. To us, it doesn't seem like a lot, we have been eating large quantities of raw foods for a while, so it's become normal. But to the average person who is used to eating a muffin here, a sandwich there and a chocolate snack in the middle, the sheer quantities eaten on a low fat raw food diet are surprising.

I am such a creature of habit that I will eat the same things day after day. I am sure this raw food diet trial would be more interesting if you had a look at Jaye's food rather than mine!

Maybe I should do a day where I track both of our intakes. He is so creative with what he eats and packs all sorts of interesting things in his cooler bag each day. He is doing all sorts of raw soups and smoothies that I wouldn't think of but that are delicious. Last night he had a mango, orange and celery smoothie that he said was the bomb.

Accountability

I was thinking today that if it wasn't for this raw food diet trial and doing the daily posts, I might have dropped out by now. So I am grateful for this way of keeping myself accountable.

My cravings have definitely been a million times more intense doing the low fat raw food diet than they were before, on a higher fat percentage. So either a higher fat percentage or a small percentage of cooked foods might be necessary for me in the transition to an optimal raw food diet.

At the moment I feel like I would like to keep this way of eating as my default, and rather than adding fat in, I would prefer to have the odd cooked item, like a potato or butternut very occasionally. I like the low fat thing on this raw food diet a lot. It just feels right.

I have no cravings for fats, but cooked starches I definitely have cravings for.

Raw Food Diet Trial: Food

I took a green smoothie with 3x cucumbers (310g), a head of romaine (400g), 2x bananas (234g), half a small watermelon (460g) and 200g Spinach. I had half for breakfast and half for lunch. For a snack I had a celery date salad with 200g celery and 3x dates. For dinner I had a banana, blueberry, date smoothie made with 614g banana, 4x dates and 90g blueberries.

A little later Jaye made another raw soup, this one was so filling, I am actually still trying to finish it. My portion contained 2x medium oranges, 2x medium tomatoes, half a bunch of spinach (150g), 1x bell pepper, a cup of peas and a cup of broccoli. It's delicious! I still had the urge to dip some bread in it though!

I was really full today. Didn't have any hunger at all, was very full and satisfied, which surprised me when I got home and saw that I had only had 600 calories for the whole day. But I suppose your body decides how much it needs when it needs it. I made up for it with my meals tonight. So I think it's good to go by hunger when you are eating the right foods.

So my totals for the raw food diet trial today were as follows: Calories 1599, Fat 8.7g, Carbs 380.1, Dietary Fiber 68g, Protein 46.3 and Sodium 542.4.

Percentage totals were as follows: Carbohydrates 86%, Protein 9% and Fat 5%.
