Raw Food Diet - 30 Day 'No Fat' Trial - Day 4

4 March 2009

Today was the 4th day of my raw food diet 'no fat' trial.

I was detoxing quite strongly in the night I reckon because when my alarm went off at 5am I felt like I'd been hit by a bus. I made the mistake of deciding to reset the alarm for 6:30, which for me is the last minute. When it went off at 6:30 I was in such a deep sleep that I felt even worse, it was like cotton wool had enveloped my brain and it took until about 9am for it to clear.

More cleansing takes place at night than during the day of course, and it would be great if I could just sleep in on those mornings when it feels like some extra rest would be a good thing, but it's not possible right now.

I think that if I had got up at 5 and exercised I would have felt better faster, so I must remember that. Don't reset the alarm, just get up.

Weight

My weight was 123.2 pounds this morning. This is down 1.1 pounds from yesterday and brings my total weight loss for this raw food diet trial to 1.8 pounds. Not bad for four days I say.

My stomach was fine today for the first time. The first three days of this live food diet no fat trial my stomach was recovering from the fatty, salty food of the weekend, and was just full of these very noisy pockets of air going bloep bloep bloep around and around in there.

Cravings

I had some cravings today but I think it was just because I was hungry. Yesterday there were no cravings and that was because I had more food with me than I needed. Today I took less food, and was quite hungry this afternoon. So, when I walked past Subway and got a whiff of all those breads I felt a bit of a pull.

I read today that wheat contains opiates! No wonder it is so addictive!

Ingredients

I just want to mention that I am not using any salt or spices of any variety during this raw food diet no fat trial. It is all fresh and natural and I am not adding any embellishment to my foods except some cocoa powder, which brings me to my next point.

Is it cocoa or cocaine?

For dinner tonight I had a chocolate smoothie, bananas, dates and cocoa powder. I put two tablespoons of cocoa powder in. Cocoa has a very small amount of caffeine in it. About the same amount of caffeine as in decaf coffee. Just a teeny bit. Within minutes of finishing the smoothie it hit me and I felt like I was on cocaine. It wasn't very pleasant.

I got a case of ADD and was just all over the place. I couldn't focus, couldn't keep still, talking too fast, tripping over my words, getting all irritable and anxious.

I didn't realize when I first went onto the raw food diet that cocoa powder isn't really raw. Many folks think it is but apparently it is impossible.

30 Bananas A Day

I found this amazing website today, it is called 30 Bananas A Day and it is awesome! You must check it out! It is a social networking site for raw vegans and is run by an Australian couple who are thriving on the low fat raw food diet.

I am totally impressed by them and think they are doing some great things.

Just looking around the website I found so many cool people and what stands out so strongly is how good these people look! The proof is in the pudding isn't it!

Raw Food Diet Trial: Food

So today I made 2 litres of green smoothie again which contained 2x small cucumbers (277g), a head of romaine lettuce (450g) Spinach (150g) 2x Mangos (580g) a handful of blueberries (100g) and 3x bananas (360g).

I had half for breakfast at 8:30 and then the other half at 12:30.

For a snack I took along another celery and date salad, made with two sticks of celery (134g) and 2x dates. This is my favorite salad at the moment and it was the most fun to eat of all my meals today, I loved it.

I take all my food in a cooler bag to work every day and it works like a charm. Even if I only drink my second smoothie at 4:00 in the afternoon it is still cold and delicious, no icky separation or discoloration, it's just as if it was just made.

I was starving when I got home so ate immediately, which considering my strong reaction to the cocoa in the smoothie is a very good thing, as maybe it's still possible I'll sleep tonight. I had the smoothie at 6:30pm and its now 11:58pm and I'm still quite wired, so maybe not.

The dinner smoothie was made with 5x bananas (538g), 5x dates and two tablespoons of cocoa.

Raw Food Diet Trial: Conclusions

My figures for today were: Calories 1567, Fat 8.7g, Carbs 388.2, Dietary Fiber 55.5g, Protein 28g, Sodium 294.5mg.

I thought I'll start including the total sodium intake so you can see that as well. This is all naturally occurring sodium in the foods, no added salt whatsoever.

Percentages: 89% carbohydrates, 5% fat, 6% Protein.
