Raw Food Diet - 30 Day 'No Fat' Trial - Day 5

5 March 2009

Today was day 5 of my raw food diet 'no fat' trial.

The cocoa has to go!

I barely slept last night, if I managed two hours it was a lot. So the effects of the cocoa are much stronger now than they were before, I suppose that is because my diet is so much cleaner now without the fat. I was also constipated, which is HIGHLY unusual for me these days. Jaye said cocoa has the same effect on him, so I think it has to go.

Weight

My weight this morning was 122.7! So that brings my total weight loss from the beginning of this raw food diet trial to 2.3 pounds.

Today was weekend so we woke up at 6:30 and then rode our bicycles to the gym. This picture is of Jaye and my sister outside our apartments.

Riding bicycles

In spite of no sleep I felt fine and energetic, but my eyes were very scratchy.

Exercise

I exercised SO hard today. It was amazing!

We rode our bicycles to the gym and it was against the wind so it was quite strenuous. I had my heart rate monitor on and my heart rate was between 160 and 170 the whole way.

The amazing thing is that once you cut the fat from your diet, the natural sugars that your body runs on can get directly to the cells, they are not blocked by the fat in your blood. In addition, oxygen can also get to the cells so much more easily without being trapped by the fat in your blood. So a low fat vegan raw food diet gives you so much more energy for exercise!

As I hit the weights hard, my heart rate frequently hit 189 at the end of a set, which is above my supposed maximum and I was totally coping with it. It would drop back down to around 170 between sets VERY quickly and then I was ready to go again!

I went from the stair climber onto the Smith Machine, where I increased my weight by 10 kilos from last week for squats and then lunges.

I did single leg leg press, Leg Extensions and calf raises. Onto the Roman Chair for various leg lifts and obliques, then some plyometrics, walking lunges and then a punishing ab workout.

We finished off with some gymnastics, cartwheels and handstands and then rode our bicycles back home again, uphill all the way.

It was SO much fun.

Raw Food Diet Trial: Food

When we got home I had 1790g watermelon, thrown into the blender, it comes out like juice. The picture is just one glass but I actually had about 6 glasses.

Then I had a celery date salad made with 93g celery and 3x dates.

From 12:30 pm until 4:00 pm I slept. After no sleep last night I felt it was well deserved. At around 5:00 pm I had my second meal, which was a massive mango and banana fruit salad with blueberry mango sauce, made with 2x Mango's (540g) and 3x bananas (297g) and the sauce was made with 132g berries and 110g mango.

For dinner I had a salad made with 1x small cucumber, 1x medium tomato, 2x stalks of celery chopped and then half a baby cabbage diced up in the food processor with half a mango for a dressing.

And I followed this up with a banana (338g), date (3) and blueberry (100g) smoothie.

I was very satisfied with my food today and I'm enjoying my raw food diet trial. The only thing is that I didn't get enough greens in. I just sort of forgot. It is good to include leafy greens on a daily basis, though it's no big deal to skip it for a day I guess.

Raw Food Diet Trial: Conclusions

My totals for today were as follows: Calories 1917, Fat 9.1g, Carbs 486.3g, Dietary Fiber 52.8g, Protein 28.9g and Sodium 217.3mg.

Percentages were as follows: Carbohydrates 91%, Protein 5%, Fat 4%.
